Part of our work involves bringing the inhabitants of the Eurométropole and its surrounding areas together and fostering social cohesion. ‘Making public transport a pleasant experience for all’ is an ongoing area of interest for the CTS.

Through various initiatives conducted in recent years by a dedicated internal team, the CTS has been stepping up its customer outreach campaigns – especially among the younger inhabitants of Strasbourg’s metropolitan area. The aim is to encourage them to be mindful of other passengers and respectful towards drivers and inspectors (as well as the fixtures and fittings and rolling stock). We also want to raise awareness about how men treat women on public transport.

In 2022, almost 8,690 young people took part in these prevention initiatives.

For European Mobility Week, the CTS launched its new campaign to tackle inconsiderate behaviour: La CTS s’engage pour plus de civilité dans les transports communs (The CTS takes a stand against inconsiderate behaviour on public transport).

The purpose of European Mobility Week, which in 2023 took place from 16 to 24 September, is to inform citizens about greener means of transport and encourage people to use them. It is also the perfect time to organise initiatives focused on mobility.

In 2023, the new CTS communication campaign aimed to raise user awareness on ‘making public transport a pleasant experience for all’ and once again turned the spotlight on what constitutes good behaviour on public transport.

The campaign involved sharing posters across the whole network and releasing funny videos with a strong central message: All aboard! Manners included!

Five funny videos

The videos, posted on social media, highlight common situations where manners are lacking, but in a light-hearted way.

For European Mobility Week 2022, the CTS wanted to go further with its initiatives to encourage better manners on public transport.

We did so through a huge poster campaign in our vehicles and across Strasbourg’s metropolitan area, sharing four expressions we would like to hear more often on our buses and trams:

We also promoted the message through laughter with four short videos on social media:

The CTS’ initiatives also fall under France’s national plan to tackle all forms of violence against women. For European Mobility Week 2022, with support from the associations DBSP and Ru’elles and with the backing of the Mission Droits des femmes et égalité de genre, we also wanted to draw attention to gender-based and sexual harassment on public transport.

An event with the two associations and the general public took place on 16 September 2022 at the CTS ticket office (9 place Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux, 67000 Strasbourg) to raise awareness about such harassment among attendees. DBSP developed a reference document titled Harcélomètre (harassment-metre) for the occasion. The document classes behaviour on public transport as normal, abnormal or serious. The Harcélomètre points out what constitutes a criminal offence and explains what to do when you encounter abnormal or serious behaviour, whether as a victim or a witness.

As part of this campaign and with support from the CTS, DBSP has also produced a video presenting the 5D method applied to public transport. The method was developed by the association Right to beLa Fondation des femmes and L’Oréal Paris to tackle street harassment.
